History and culture in and around the Lys Valley

castel savoia

The Gressoney Valley is the Queen of the Alps, at the foot of the majestic peaks of Monte Rosa this place amazes with its beautiful landscapes, excellent hiking trails, and the peace that reigns and sets it apart from the usual tourist resorts.

It is rich in natural beauty, but that is not all: monuments, castles with a fairy-tale atmosphere, churches, and chapels that populate our pretty hamlets, and also Walser architecture, medieval bridges, and 19th-century villas.

This place has inspired world-famous writers and poets including Lev Tolstoy, Luigi Einaudi, and Giosuè Carducci.

Following several holidays at the Villa of Beck-Peccoz Barons, the Queen of Italy Margherita di Savoia fell in love with this valley and decided to have the architect Emilio Stramucci build her personal summer residence: Castello Savoia.

Everything here tells of an ancient and glorious history just waiting to be discovered.
