The Carlo Mollino Refuge is located in the Weissmatten ski resort in Valle d'Aosta, over 2,000 meters above sea level, and is dedicated to the master Mollino, architect, designer and photographer, and lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture in Turin
Built on the model of the "Capriata House" project for the 10th Milan Triennial in 1954, one of Carlo Mollino's ideal houses that remained unfinished, it was realized in Gressoney sixty years later thanks to the Department of Architecture and Design of the Turin Polytechnic, the Gressoney Saint Jean Municipality, and the Walser Mountain Community, with the participation of the Order of Architects of the Province of Turin and the Foundation for Architecture/Turin.
The Refuge is located near the tea pavilion of Queen Margherita of Savoy, along the Walserweg - the great Walser path.
Since its design, the building has been inspired by sustainable thinking, embodied in adopting materials and installations to minimize the hut's environmental impact.
Today, the building houses a bar-restaurant, easily reached on foot in about 30 minutes from Alpe Cialvrina or with the Weissmatten chairlift.
