The Gressoney Valley offers all ice climbing lovers many possibilities from the simplest for beginners to the most difficult ones for more experienced.
The more affordable classic ones are the Nicchia and the Y located in Gressoney-La-Trinité, while the Alpenzu waterfall is located on the plain beyond the town of Gressoney-Saint-Jean.
Going up a level, it is possible to try your hand at the Punta Jolanda waterfall, located in front of the homonymous chairlift in Gressoney-La-Trinité; for lovers of wilder terrain, the Netscho valley, in the same municipality, is a must: the northern exposure of some climbs in narrow gullies makes them practicable even in late season.
The more experienced will find terrain suited to their abilities in the Ciampa waterfalls, in the spectacular columns of Thriller and Nuvole Barocche placed on the rocky buttresses of Monte Tiaz and Testa Grigia.
For Dry Tooling specialists, a good possibility is the rocky bastion of Lysbalma, the historic summer climbing wall of the Gressoney guides, which in particular conditions in winter sees the formation of ice candles connected by rocky stretches, an ideal terrain for this specialty.
It is advisable to approach ice climbing with the support of the Alpine Guides, who will be able to guide you in discovering this exciting activity.
