The Gressoney Valley is undoubtedly a land of cross-country skiers, for generations cross-country skiing has been practised with excellent competitive results or even just as a sport for those who live in Gressoney; immersed in the spectacular winter environment of this valley, you can choose from three main trails, each with its own peculiarities.

The Gressoney valley, also called the Lys valley because of the stream of the same name that runs through it, is the ideal place to approach cross-country skiing as a beginner, but it is also suitable for those who practice this discipline with a good technical knowledge.

It can be practised in unique, natural and intact environments, a complete physical activity that involves many muscle groups. The feeling of moving and working in harmony with one's body can lead to a gratifying feeling of physical well-being.

Gressoney Saint Jean

The Gressoney-Saint-Jean piste covers 25 kilometres of tracks that lead from the centre of the town towards the Dresal plain to the north, the larch woods in the Castel Savoia area and on to the La Stella locality to the south.

The Gressoney Saint Jean track is also known as the Champion's Track because champions such as Arianna Follis, Francesco De Fabiani, Greta Laurent and Agostino Filippa trained and trained on these tracks. This is the habitual training track of Federico Pellegrino, the most successful Italian cross-country skier ever, who has adopted Gressoney and has chosen to live in Gressoney Saint Jean with his wife Greta Laurant.

Cross-country skiing on these trails is a decidedly unique and intoxicating experience, skiing through snow-covered landscapes surrounded by nature can give you unique sensations of freedom. The tranquillity and beauty of the winter landscapes are very rewarding and regenerate the mind.

Gressoney La Trinité

In Gressoney-La-Trinité, the track passes right through the middle of the village, you ski for 6 km, admiring ancient Walser constructions, often until late spring.

The track is divided into two parts: the upper part towards the north of Underwoald, dedicated exclusively to cross-country skiing, and the lower part in the centre of the village, where in addition to cross-country skiing, it is possible to walk or snowshoe on the beaten snow. A partly totally free track where one can enjoy the wonders of nature to create a sense of connection and well-being.

Gressoney La Trinité also has a cross-country track at high altitude, in the locality of Sant'Anna, accessible by the cableway of the Monterosa Ski Staffal-Sant'Anna district. In two minutes, the cable car takes you right to the plateau where the cross-country skiing trail also runs, suitable for wonderful winter walks.

Please note The trail is not always groomed, so please contact the Gressoney Tourist Office for up-to-date information.

Pian Coumarial

The area of Pian Coumarial, in the municipality of Fontainemore, is the ideal place for wonderful days of sport, being outdoors and having fun in a wild and unspoilt environment.

The area is immersed in coniferous forests where a number of trails of different levels wind their way up to 47 km of cross-country trails, plus another 12 km of ungroomed cross-country hiking trails also suitable for snowshoes.

Cross-country skiing is often practised in quiet and peaceful areas, offering the opportunity to reflect and relax away from everyday distractions to regenerate the body and mind.
