Valle D'Aosta is a land of courageous vignerons who cultivate plots of land in inaccessible, very often extreme areas: here viticulture is truly heroic.
The typically continental climate is mitigated by the presence of the Dora Baltea river and it is precisely along its course that the cultivation of vines is concentrated.
In Pont-Saint-Martin on the characteristic and steep terraces the eye is lost in admiring the pergolas supported by the pilùn, large stone pillars of Canavese influence whose role as heat reservoirs is fundamental.
Among the vines stands out the picotendro, a variety of Nebbiolo native to nearby Piedmont and which forms the basis for the Vallée D'Aoste DOC in its sub-denominations Arnad-Montjovet and Donnas.
