A full day on a mountain dairy farm together with those who work there all summer, following the pace set by the animals and the mountain environment. Guided visits, lunch with typical produce, polenta, Fontina and fresh cheeses.
The formula of the event is quite simple: visitors are invited to experience a typical day’s activities on the farm, to see the tools that are used and to find out about all the various aspects related to the farm and the pastures, through a series of guided routes ilustrating what happens in the various areas, especially in the daity itself, where the delicious Fontina cheese is made.
Located in the municipality of Fontainemore on the edge of the Mont Mars Nature Reserve, at the foot of the Colle della Marmontana and adjacent to Lake Torretta, the Pietra Bianca mountain pasture is located at an altitude of 2121 m a.s.l. and extends over an area of about 100 hectares.
Mountain pasture products: Fontina DOP, Gressoney toma, chilli flavored toma and wild fennel.
Path:
1. Take the regional road to Gressoney, after passing the capital of Fontainemore you reach the locality of Coumarial. After parking the car, continue on foot following the signs for Lake Vargno and then Colle della Marmontana; journey time approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
2. Take the regional road to Gressoney, after passing the capital of Fontainemore you reach the locality of Pillaz, you can continue on the farm road towards Vargno up to the parking area; continue on foot for Colle della Marmontana and then follow the signs up to the pasture; walking time about 2 hours.
